The plight of Hindus in Bangladesh

Hindu Women Raped

Hindu Women Raped

The plight of the Hindu community of Bangladesh is disturbing. Regularly, one hears about attacks on Hindus and atrocities on women and children of Hindus. Temples and Hindu establishments also routinely face the brunt of extremists in Bangladesh. The role of the Bangladesh government has always been fishy. BNP or Awami League, it doesn’t really make much of a difference. The Hindu community of Bangladesh are apparently forced to live as second class citizens.

What is the reason for this? The rise of Islamic extremism has obviously led to the present scenario. But who are responsible for the rise of hardline islamics? The answer is—successive Bangladesh governments. They have forgotten the pillars on which the Bangla nation was formed. The ideology of those very extremists who supported Pakistan during the ’71 Liberation war is prospering. The secular, progressive credentials of Bangladesh have been long consigned to the dustbin of history. Politically, the situation is bound to worsen. Let Hindus not have any hope from the government.

Then what is the solution? Apparently, Hindus in Bangladesh face a problem; a problem of survival and life of safety, respect and dignity; and this problem needs a solution. The solution; or at least a step towards the solution; would be—Political empowerment.

The Hindus must aim to become a political force in the country. They must be united in quest of this goal. The community must vote for a consensus candidate and when Hindus are attacked or threatened, the community must hit the streets together. The Hindus must have no hesitation in becoming a “vote bank”. The Hindus must, as a primary goal, seek to make themselves relevant to the extent that they can influence 50-60 seats in the Jatiya Sangsad. Then and only then will their voice be heard loud and clear. And in these attempts, the Hindus must bring with them the other minorities of Bangladesh.

The future of Hindus is in the hands of the Hindus. Let us ensure that we decide our fate, not others.

Great article and good advices. Hindus lack the political force and that’s why they cannot bring proper changes to the community. We are seeing that even in India now.

So, what is the solution? Why not hindus are regrouping and acting like an united body? Why they are not forming a new political party in bangladesh which will be solely by the hindus, of the hindus and for the hindus and then fight election. If such a party is formed and they can win at least some seats even in parliament, they can even force the mainstream parties to rewrite the islamisation in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is working with America and other Western colonial countries to combat Muslim militants, just like Pakistan is helping the invaders kill other Muslims. Bangladesh is for Bengalis not for Hindu or Muslim, let us unite against the corrupt government and make a country that is FREE from colonial influence, dont forget that most victims of the Pakistani army were Bengali Muslims, they said Bengali Muslim are kafir for living with Hindus, and now Pakistan is helping to kill other Muslim on behalf of America! and don’t
forget how Al Qaeda was funded by Western governments to fight the Russian Soviets. Bangladeshis of all sway of faiths need to get rid off those corrupt elite in power, even if Bangladesh had a Hindu mainly parliment they would still enslave our people to foreign companies and countries PEACE AND UNITY PLEASE DONT LET THE POLITICIANS FOOL YOU! the elite use the Hindu and Muslim agenda to divide the people, and when they divide they conquer. Divide and conquer is the oldest tactic! look at how the invading Punjabi Pakistanis used religion to divide, and now Pakistan kills other Muslims on behalf of Western imperialism. DONT FALL FOR THOSE OLD DIRTY TRICKS!

It is an old trick to blame the west for all the problems. People have become smarter. This trick doesn’t work anymore. The internal fascism that is thriving in Islamic communities is coming out. People are seeing and learning what Quran instructs their believers to do. People know that Hadith says raping “Kaffir” is okay. When a Muslim comes a kills a Hindu, he is doing what Quran has instructed him to do not what so-called western imperialists told him.

You tell me y is it always that 95% of the problems of the world has one side that involves Muslims.

During 1971, most people that killed were not Muslims but rather Hindus. It was obviously Hindus that were targeted by Pakistani army and only those Muslims that helped Hindus were killed.

Even after 1971, 20 million Hindus of Bangladesh went missing. Who was behind that? Pakistan?

I think a political party exclusively for Hindus at this point would not give us the results we want.Hindus are too scattered to make an impact that way.We must allign with a national party (I think it has to be Awami League).I guess minorities already vote for Awami League. When they know they have assured support of 10 % electorate,Awami League would have to protect minorities. And if it is felt that they are not doing enough, Hindus always have an option of a seperate party. But Hindus must make sure they are aggressive.Agitation will be essential. We need dynamic leadership.

I agree with Kumar that Hindus were the chief targets of Pakistan Army..No doubt a large number of Muslims were slaughtered too but the numbers of Hindus was far more..Hindus were selectively killed..Millions were killed and the world slept.

Sorry, I beg to differ. if a political party already knows that Hindus have no other alternative other than supporting it (in this case AL) they will take the Hindu support for granted. On the other hand their political opponents will try their best through whatever means to stop Hindus from being able to vote least it mars their chance of victory. Probably this was the reason why their was so much state sponsored organized violence against Hindus during BNP rule. If Hindus form at least a distinct political block they stand the chance of being taken seriously by both the parties. For instance , see the example of Bahujan Samajbadi Party in India farthering the Dalit rights.

But the support base of BSP is vast.Really vast. The sheer number of traditional BSP voters is more than 45%.
Hindus in Bangladesh are fewer. Will they be able to make much of an impact by a seperate party?Or will we end up losing the little support we occasionaly get from Awami League?Or maybe a Hindu party can be formed and seat sharing agreement done with AL for seats where Hindu votes influence the results.Wont this give direct advantage to BNP as some Muslim voters will surely switch to BNP?

The situation of hindus in any of the muslim countries is the same..It is primerly due to being hindu’s. It shows how much muslims hate hindu’s. As far as Bangladeshis are concerned, they have forgot the favour done by indians to get them freedom from their so called Muslim brothers living in pakistan, It is the shame on Bangladeshis, forgot their condition prior to being ruled by pakistani;s and the one who saved them and helped them getting freedom are now being treated so in humanly.

Shame on the Bangladeshis fundamentalists.
