An ancient Hindu temple in a village near the Bangladesh capital has been vandalised, the miscreants breaking six idols, police were quoted as saying on Saturday.

Some 30-35 people attacked the Sri Sri Rahshakali temple in Ashrafdi village in Naranaganj district on Friday night, the bdnews24 web site quoted a police official as saying.

They also damaged four adjacent houses and injured five people, it said.

Police officer Mohammed Yunus Ali said the temple was attacked following an altercation between a Hindu and three youths in the village. A case has been registered, the official said.

Ramna Kali Mandir

The Ramna Kali Mandir was destroyed by the Pakistan Army in March 1971.The destruction of this temple was, ironically, a sign of the advent of tougher times for Hindus of Bangladesh. Hundreds of people who had taken shelter inside the temple were slaughtered as were hundreds of thousands of others throughout the country. Swami Paramananda Giriji, the priest, held on to the deity and prayed till the very end when he was burned alive by Pakistani forces.

The destruction of the temple and the accompanying slaughter is not just another dark blot on history; it is the symbol of cruelty and tyranny almost unparalleled in history. The iconic images of Sheikh Mujib addressing massive crowds in the 7th March 1971 rally prominently show the Ramna Kali Mandir in the background. The picture indeed promised a secular, free Bangladesh. Alas, it was not to be. The minorities of Bangladesh have been victimized throughout post independence history.

The Ramna Kali Mandir must be rebuilt at the same spot where it originally stood. Bangladesh governments in the recent past have promised to rebuild the temple but not at the original site. The temple must be rebuilt at the original site. This cannot be compromised.

The Hindu community must come together with renewed zeal to pursue the construction of the great temple. The demand for construction of the temple at it’s original site can become a national movement. The success of the Ramna Kali Mahamandir movement can well be symbolic of the Hindus of Bangladesh. With the successful construction of the temple, the Hindu community of Bangladesh will no doubt be filled with renewed zeal and unity to find their right, respectful place in Bangladeshi society.

The temple must be, as proposed, accompanied with a memorial; a reminder to our future generations. The temple must be of a scale no less than it’s original form. Let this temple be the pivot of the Hindu movement in Bangladesh.

Correction from Ratib: Bangabandhu removed the LAST stones of the temple, NOT the Pak Army, but BANGABANDHU removed the last stones, laid grass on the land, confiscated it from the Hindu Board, and gave it to The Dhaka Club

Although the police initially rejected to assist the Hindu family later they caved in due to media pressure. They arrested four people behind this attack. While asked the police commissioner he declined to comment on this issue.

Boloram Das said the extortionist Yunus is now threatening to marry a minor Hindu girl forcefully.

Boloram Das said we have consulted with the local people to help us and to police but no one is helping us.

Boloram Das added that at least twenty minority Hindu families of our locality can not go back home for these extortionists.

Human rights activist Dipal Barua said the attacks on minorities are growing notably. We highly condemn these attacks on minorities and we demand to the government to take proper actions against extortionists as soon as possible.

Hindu Woman Raped & Killed in Bangladesh

Radha Rani Halder, a newly married Hindu woman of the Shariatpur District under Dhaka Division in central Bangladesh, was raped and killed by a group of Muslim miscreants on June 27, 2009.

Ms. Halder worked for the local NGO, the Shariatpur Development Society (SDS).

Mr. Dipankar Bairagee, husband of the slain woman, said that, at about 11 a.m. on June 27, Ms. Halder went for loan collection, as part of her work with the NGO, to the house of local village leader, Mr. Halim Matubbar, in South Goaldia village.

But when she did not return until afternoon, her co-workers started searching for her as she didn’t return on time to the office with the money, and that her mobile was not responding, said Mr. Quamrul Hasan(Badal), the Sector Chief of SDS.

“Finally after frantic search until on late at night, we discovered the unclothed dead-body of Ms. Halder with her throat half-slit near Hajeer Pukur of Palong Upazila in Shariatpur”, said Sector Chief Hasan.

Mr. Bairagee, the devastated husband of the deceased, said, “We got married about 2 months ago. She took up the job to relieve the family of its hardships, but got killed in this brutal way”.

“We have filed a case with the police, but they failed to arrest any of the perpetrators”, said he.

“Local Muslim Mohammed Kalam, Borhan and Motaleb killed my wife after raping her; and they also snatched an amount of Tk 43,996.00, as well as a golden chain and earring from my wife”, added Mr. Bairagee.

Shariatpur police chief said, “The case is under investigation; we are doing our best; and we have arrested one of the suspect”.

Annie Halder, a Catholic human rights activist, expressed anxiety over growing attacks on the minorities in Bangladesh.

“We demand proper investigation of this case and due justice to theperpetrators”, said she.

William Gomes: Bangladeshi Human Rights Activist

I am William Gomes a Human rights activist and a freelance journalist from Bangladesh. I do used to run a small human rights organization called “Christian Development Alternative (CDA). I am also a converted Christian. I was harassed by police many times.  we do work with our small effort to protect the rights of the minorities specially.

Today 8th July 2009 ,two police official form special Branch of police under the City SB came to my house around 6 o clock in the evening. One police official said, who is William Nicholas Gomes. They said we are looking for you. We are from city SB of police. Our senior official wants to talk to you. He ringed from his cell and gave me the
mobile phone, from other side a man, asked me what you was doing in India in February. Come to my office tomorrow, my high officials wants to know more.

I said to him that I will go to prime minister’s office tomorrow early in the morning and then I will go to UNDP local office for pre fixed meeting. Than the man from the other side to go to his office in Bialy road in Saturday.The man was the Additional Sp of city SB. I will go to his office on Saturday. I will give you update. What is going on.

2009 Failed State Index

Fund for peace has decided to rank Bangladesh 19 out of 177 states putting it into “alert” state. The higher the ranking, more vulnerability exists in that nation and more likely that nation to spiral into a state-wide crisis. The bad ranking for Bangladesh has to do with corrupted government, social unrest and bad human rights record.  Although new government was able to gain some momentum initially, BDR mutiny and rising cost of living while sliding quality of life has contributed to a high vulnerability within the state.

Pakistan has been ranked 10th putting it into a highly critical category. Somalia ranks 1 in the index.

Among the top 10 ranked states, 7 of them are Muslim majority states.

This shows the high uncertainty that exists on most of the Muslim states. Corrupted government, rise of Islamic fascism and fundamentalism are tearing these countries apart.

Unfortunately Bangladesh has ranked worse than both of these nations even though these countries are recovering from the civil war and unrest.

ISKCON in Bangladesh Under Fear of Attack by Muslim Terrorists

International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), a Hindu organization, fear attacks by Islamic militants after helping rescuedminor Hindu boy from madrasa.

Bangladesh government has failed to protect and promote human rightsof the minorities of Bangladesh over the years. Rape, gang-rape,kidnap and forceful conversion of members of the ethnic and religious minorities has turned Bangladesh into a land of human rights violation, opposed to the demand of UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The rising Islamic militancy threatens the existence of the minorities in Bangladesh. Many Hindus were forced to leave the country because of communal violence.

Recently, a minor Hindu boy, 13-year-old Poresh Chandra Sarkar, was traced out of his long disappearance. The boy from poor family took up job as child labour in a restaurant in the capital. Dhaka. Far from his village, there a Muslim man, named Hamdu Mia, came to know about the boy’s helpless condition, and with the help of some Maolanas (Muslim clerics) of a madrasa, they illegally converted this immature boy to a Islam from Hinduism and confined him in madrasa, away from all contact with his parents.

After lots of frantic searching for the boy, a clue came from a letter with $58 sent by Poresh to his father on 25.04.2008 through Genera Post Office (GPO) in Dhaka. Based on the clue, the boy’s father Krishna Chandra Sarker contacted a Muslim officer at the GPO. The officer informed Krishna Sarker that he knew of his son’s whereabouts and that he might get back his son if his family converted to Islam.

Failing to make contact with his beloved son, Mr. Sarker filed a police report (GD # 1498) with the Paltan Police Station, Dhaka.

The police then called in Hamdu Mia along with the Maulans to the Police Station. The parents, along with the relatives, beg to the police to hand over their son to them until late at night, but they were forced out of the Police Station with getting custody of the boy.

It appears that the police were connected to the extremists. The lawyers, representing the boy’s father, suspect that the innocent boy might have undergone terror-training in a camp somewhere like Bagmara, as the boy shout to his father over a cell-phone that, “I have sacrifice my life to establish the law of Allah in the world, and don’t try to find out me…..” (Allahar Ain Prothistha Korar Jonno ejibon utshorga koriachi Amar Khoj Korio na). He has been trained to keep shut himself under any circumstances.

Later on, the father and the son was brought before a court in Dhaka, chaired by magistrate Ms. Shamima Parvin on 07 April 2009. Unfortunately, ignoring the age of the victim and submission of Mr. Sarker’s lawyer, the magistrate ordered that the boy be sent to the Madrasa, instead of handing him over to his parents. But, faced with objection of the lawyers, she sent the boy to Jail Hajat (Safe Custody).

Later on, when the boy was produced before court again on May 5, he was handed over to his parents: the boy was rescued, thanks to his parents frantic efforts.

Poresh is slowly getting better decaling the extremist indoctrination and JIHAD mentality. But the parents, the boy, and ISKCON (who gave the family temporary shelter) are in fear of persecution by the Islamic extremists.

Many national and international organization has demanded to the government to take proper steps to secure the boy and his family and highly condemn the forceful conversion.

Jasada Nandan Acharjee, Sebait and Executor of Swai Bag Ashram said that “I do believe in the religious freedom of all people but I highly condemn what was happened with the poor Hindu boy Poresh, the Islamic fascist has brain washed the boy with message of hearted and Jihad and that is also violating the Human Rights”.

He said that many often the children of minority communities, targeted by the Islamic fascists, are indoctrinated with the message of Jihad.

Rupauga Goar Das Bramachary of ISKCON said that Poresh was initially saying that he would sacrifice his life for Allah, he was indoctrinated with the idea of JIHAD as the JMB (Jammatul Mujahedin, Bangladesh) people do; now after hearing the religious teaching of Hinduism, he is shedding the extremist teachings received at the madrasa.

He said we do believe in the religious freedom of every soul; when he becomes mature, he can entitled him with any religion, but no one should misguide a minor child with the Islamic JIHAD idea to destroy the boy’s life and endanger life of other people through him.

ISKCON’s food for life has gave shelter to this boy and to his parents. But the organization said: we have fear about the security; we have responsibility for the whole Hindu society related with us; for Poresh, the whole temple and other Hindu believers living nearby can face communal violence.

A small local Human Rights Organization, Sonatan International Foundation, is helping the family to get the legal aid.

The joint-secretary Pinaki said that “we have observed that some of the Islamic fascist are guarding outside of ISCKON temple, we are not sure how they came to know about the presence of the family in this temple, only we know about the presence of the Poresh and his family’s presence in this ISCKON temple”.

Prof. Nikhil Chandra Pal said that “The situation is very fearful. At any time, anything bad can happen to us and to the boy and his parents; we are all targeted by the Islamic extremists”.

The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), a US Congressional panel, has recently dropped Bangladesh from its Watch List of countries that violate rights of minorities to religious freedom. Bangladesh was in the list from 2005 to 2008.

USCRIF removed Bangladesh from the Watch List in its May 1, 2009 report, urging the new Awami League administration to strengthen protections for all Bangladeshis to enjoy the right to freedom of religion or belief, and undertake efforts to improve conditions for minority religious communities.

The commission hoped that the government of Bangladesh would investigate and prosecute, to the fullest extent of the law, the perpetrators of violent acts against members of the minority religious communities, women, and non-governmental organizations, committed in the past.

The fate of minorities, nonetheless, remains unchanged and their religious freedom is far from adequate.

Secularism in Danger in Bangladesh

The Islamic terrorist activities resulting in death of uncounted innocent and spreading the message of hearted and violence. Bangladesh have had failed to deal with the Islamic terrorism by the years. The root of Islamic terrorism was rooted historically by defining the Islam as a “state religion”. The historical rotten root of political Islam and Islamic extremism was rooted by the long absence of secular parliament democracy.

By knocking down the secular ascent of the constitution of Bangladesh the dirty politicians characterized Bangladesh from secular to Islamic Bangladesh.

Many nations all around the world have already successfully introduced anti terrorism legalization including Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and United States. It’s the need of time for Bangladesh to introduce and well and constructive Anti terrorism legislation

It’s ironically truth that the law alone will not be able to deter Islamic terrorism in Bangladesh. Before introducing anti terror law the government should first should first kick out the “bloody bismillah” and the root of Islamic extremism the state religion “Islam”. The nation and nationals should be indoctrinated with spirit of secularism and step forward to a better and progressive Bangladesh.

The anti terrorism law should be extra ordinary law that fits with the pure democratic standard and distinct from the laws of Bangladesh penal code. In drafting the law the government should keep in mind that in implementing the law no one should be able to use the law as political instrument.

In drafting the law government should keep in mind that the law should not only focus on the present or past activities of any Islamic extremist group but should focus on with a manner to curb the root of Islamic extremities from the society.

We have experienced the Islamic extremist are recruiting new members inside of the prisons of Bangladesh during their imprisonment. The Islamic extremist indoctrinated the ill fated the Muslims inside of the prisons of Bangladesh. In a situation like this Bangladesh government should start a new prison only for the Islamic extremists and insure the proper correction and teaching towards justice and peace.

In that case the 2nd accused is the brother of general secretary of local Awami league. On 30th April 2009 , a group 7 unknown young men forcefully took him to Ranigonj Market by Motor Cycle .On the way they gave him bag and they took him to police station. Next day the police send the poor Hindu Minority in court filing a case of revering 20 “Fensidel” from this poor farmer.

Era of Hope

“Be aware of Bangladesh” this is how the Honkong based magazine “The Economic Review” titled on Bangladesh. This is the same Bangladesh which comes out of sacrificial 9 months long of liberation war against the Islamic fascist and brutal Junta of Pakistan in 1971. The new born nation was inspired by fully by non communal spirit. But the joy of liberation was struggling with the left inner vested quarter of Pakistani Junta “Al –Badar” and “Al- Shamas”. Slowly the vested quarter entered into the root of the policy making. The country faced horrible tragedy during 1975 and afterward. The father of the nation was killed by the army officials and the nation steps into new tragedy. That was beginning of new era in the history of Bangladesh. The constitution was amended many times afterward and the agenda of vested quarter was fulfilled. The secular entity of Bangladesh was removed and it was titled with “Bloody Bismillah”. That was main base of entering the slow poison of Political Islam in the land of peace. I want to recall the saying of great Italian philosopher Sonko “Religion is regarded by the common men as true, by the wise as false and by the rulers as useful”.

In Bangladesh Religion is highly useful for all forms left –right politicians indeed. The secular writer Taslima Nasrin was forced to leave the country for the Islamic fascist. The free thinker Dr.Goni Gomez was killed by the JMB and nation was shacked by the bomb blast in almost all districts by the Islamic fascist and this is the result of Islamization of Bangladesh.

In Bangladesh the minorities are under threat all the time in the name of Islam. We want to dream for a day, when we will be able to worship in the Christmas day without the police security and without any fear of Bomb Blast. We want to dream for a day when Bangladesh will be corruption free and when we will be free from poverty.  We want to dream for a day when the people of all religion will sing the song of peace and harmony together and work together for a better Bangladesh. We want to dream for a better Bangladesh. We don’t want to see any title “Be aware of Bangladesh” but we want to see the “Bangladesh the unique example of peace and prosperity”.

Temple in Dinajpur

The local Government is inactive in protecting the Hindu Minorities in Bangladesh.

“Terokota Mondir” is a famous religious place for the Hindus all over sub continent. “Terokota Mondir” is located at Birgonj,Dinajpur in Bangladesh . It was donated as a deity property by King Jogodis Chandra Roy in the name of “Shri Shir KantiJew Thakur” Total 16 acer 23 Sotok land was donated by the kind king .

On 16th January 2009 a group of Islamic fascist came in the “Mondir (Temple) and start building the house for ” Al Hera Nurani Talimul Quran Madrasa” the local Hindu devotee protested on that communal attitude. And in 17th Januray 2009 Shri Moti Lal das filed a general diary (GD No:590) in Birgonj ploice station on behalf of the local Hindu devotee narrating the illegal activity of Islamic fascist and demanding to stop the illegal activates of Islamic fascist.

The chairman of local OP (Unity council) of Brigonj Shri Arun Chandra das said to the source that although they informed the illegal activities to Oc Mujammel Huq of Birgonj police station he did not take any necessary steps.

The Human rights organization ” Christain development Alternative (CDA) highly protested on this illegal activities of Islamic fascist and demand to Mr. Sitangshu Guha of OP US and visiting delegate of OP US Dr. Thomas Dulu to bring this fact to the national and international community and take urgent actions as soon as possible. We also want to request to Dr.Thomas Dulu of OP to visti the Temple immediately and talk to Her Excellency Prime Minster S Hasina to make it clear about her governments policy regarding securing the rights of the minorities of Bangladesh.We also demand to suspend the OC BirGonj.

Sydney, Australia—A conference that was to “debate” charging Israel with war crimes was canceled, as reported in the Sydney Morning Herald, after “revelations the convener had made anti-Semitic remarks.” Maqsood Alshams, a reputed human rights activist made inflammatory and highly derogatory anti-Semitic statements to Dr. Richard L. Benkin of Chicago in emails and over the telephone. Alshams had previously asserted that his passionate anti-Israeli animus was based on his commitment to human rights for all people. When Benkin asked him why he had no sympathy for the children of Sderot and other Jewish communities facing Hamas rocket fire, Alshams said it was because “you Jews are m**herf****ng b**t*rds.” Alshams repeated these comments to Benkin and had made similarly revealing statements to others.

Benkin revealed Alshams’ underlying motives to several members of Australia’s Jewish community. They got the information to the Jewish Board of Deputies who got it to the press. Two days later, the conference (which was to be held at an official building) was canceled after several participants withdrew and distanced themselves from Alshams.

Benkin, Founder of Interfaith Strength, is an anti-terrorist and human rights activist. Like many others, he is committed to unmasking the anti-Jewish hatred that is the real basis for many Israel-bashers, who cloak themselves in disingenuous human rights language—a ruse that, unfortunately, many in the media and elsewhere reinforce.

Destroyed Hindu Temple in Bangladesh

Dear Secular Government!!

Previously “Ma durga” was demolished by the communal quarter in Gopalgonj and now again “Ma Kali” is fully demolished by the Muslims in Bangladesh. This is an open question to the devoted, why only the Hindu Goddess is under attack? What is the reason behind? Why the Government is silent? How man y Goddess will be demolished? In Bangladesh Minority Wife, Sister and Mother are not safe and in Temple Holy Goddess are not safe? Sadhan Biswas a local devote of “Ma Durag” said that “Those who can demolish the soil made Goddess they will not hesitate to kill us “. We highly demand to the Mr.Sitangshu Guha to take this brutal incident immediately to the concerned national and international community. We urge to every devotee to take actions from their position to secure the religious rights of the minorities as soon as possible.

On 26th January 2009 around 9 pm a group of local violent and highly armed Muslims led by Mohammed Siraj the ex-chairman of Banesordi (Faridpur) attacked on the Sosan(Hindu Grave yard) and then attacked on by the side “Kali Mondir” . They fired in the temple and demolished the holy Goddesses. As the local devote run to safe the holy temple from the brutal attack of the violent Muslims the highly armed threat the helpless devotee with arms. These highly armed, Violent Muslims are the supporters of workers and supporters of Local BNP. According to RS and CS record the place said temple belongs to the Hindu community. The greedy Muslims intent to grab the lands of the Temple and Sosan ( Hindu Grave yard).

Last week, a Christian pastor’s wife has been gang raped by Muslims. Later, the culprits were pressuring the media and the law agencies of blaming the whole incidence on local Christians and Hindus. They also robbed his house and took church money. Read more here. This is a surprising development and something we were not expecting. 

Then around the beginning of January local Muslims threatened to kill a Christian leader if he did not stop preaching God. Read it here. Furthermore, a family had to eject thier recently converted grandparents as local Muslims threatened to kill the grandchildren. 

We are strongly condemning such a dangerous tendency pursued by extremist Muslims in Bangladesh. Please contact your local MPs and inform your support and urgency regarding this issue.

Bangladeshi Muslim Doctor in Forced Marriage

Everyone is talking about Dr. Humayra Abedin and that what a big step it is for the rights of women in the UK. Lots of girls from Pakistan and Bangladesh are forced to marry unknown people from their respective countries. Sometimes they are viciously abused as it was the case for this doctor from the UK. 

A big problem especially for Bangladesh is that sometimes the parents are paid a high amount by the groom to marry their daughters so that he can move to UK/US. Therefore, it is a serious issue that need to be dealt with.

Apparently a lot of people do not know the reason behind this rage of her parents. The reason is because she had a good friendship with a Hindu man from Bangladesh. 

Her Muslim family became incensed after she developed a close friendship with a Hindu Bangladeshi man she met in London. Since May, they have made several attempts to keep her away from him and to force her into marriage. The Metropolitan Police launched an inquiry at the end of June, after she was held captive in her flat by her mother and uncle, who visited for several days.
